Fremantle garden- where I currently live
Winner
Residential to $20 000 Construction award in the 2006 Landscape, Design and Irrigation Awards
for the courtyard.

2006.  This is very Fremantle. I designed the courtyard in close consultation with the owner of the house and also built it. I  get a lot of pleasure when people sit here for a meal or a drink and say how relaxed they feel.  The garden is very productive and supports a wide range of useful plants: herbs for cooking, aloe vera (great for cuts), chillis (not good for cuts) and other seasonal foods. The outdoor shower is great for cleaning up after the beach and also for summer showers.

The feature wall is on an angle and provides a link between the house with the open doorway allowing access and a point of interest. The reinforced concrete beam along the top means that you can swing on it!

2007. The  garden, including the courtyard, was open in October  as part of the Open Garden Scheme with all proceeds going to Beyond Blue and the Open Garden Scheme. I was very apprehensive as the whole garden is , eh, shall we say different to some of the manicured gardens that are shown in Dalkeith and Cottosloe. But the chickens, planting and bits and pieces provided ideas and stimulation and everyone seemed very pleased to have come.

2008.   The garden is still going strong.  Boris the motorbike frog has been released into the bamboo three metres from my door.  He's been heard to rev up and there are a few of his tadpole mates as back up.

.

Nota bene- this is where I currently live and the garden suits the house and the owner. It's not an indication of what I would produce for you.
