    Consultancy

    This is where I visit your house/site to discuss your ideas and the potential for your garden. I can advise you on structural aspects as well as the aesthetic. You can expect clear advice and explanations.

    We can discuss landscaping ideas that are exciting, individual and practical. All gardens should be stylish and reflect the personalities of the owners and tie in with the house and surrounding landscape.

    Horticultural advice will be given on soils, watering and plants- my qualifications are listed on the home page.  I'm also a trained and talented teacher, having taught for several years at TAFE and more recently for UWA Extension.

    Costs will be discussed for landscaping work, including your budget and how much things are likely to cost. You don't want to spend too little by scrimping but also you don't want to over-capitalise.

    At the consultation I can give you a verbal estimate for design work, and then I can send you a written itemised quotation for design work.

    Design

    Garden design is about intention- what you want to achieve.

    Design is about assembling complimentary materials and plants and   together to form a practical and aesthetic result that is critically admired and enjoyed by clients, their family and friends. To achieve this, I use a combination of my professional skills and a process that is generally adopted by garden designers worldwide.

      1. Initial meeting (this is covered in the consultancy above);
      2. preparation and discussion of concept plan;
      3. submission of final plan and specification.

    There is ample opportunity for the exchange of ideas in the design process. One of my key tasks is to find out what you like and dislike. I am experienced in analysing sites and noting their good points as well as their weaknesses, and what can be achieved at an aesthetic level and always considering the practical.

    The final plans and specifications enable the garden to be constructed by homeowners, subcontractors and/or landscape contractors- including AKL. Plans include section sketches where appropriate as well as plan view, usually to 1: 50 or 1:100 scale. Any construction details are shown in larger scale. Plants are documented and sizes suggested. You also get a CD of images of plants- so you know exactly what plants look like.

    It is quickest if you have the house plans, but if not I can measure up the boundaries, buildings and location of existing plants etc.

    All design work is quoted by letter.
